One move

Figure-Four Stretch

Mobility Lower body

How to read ahead. Do to go one move at a time.

Lie on your back, cross one ankle over the opposite thigh, and gently draw the bottom leg toward you for a deep outer-hip and glute stretch.

Option. Keep the stretch mild. If the hip feels pinched, ease off or support the thigh with a hand.

Show the steps
  1. 1

Lie on your back with both knees bent, feet flat.

  2. 2

Cross the right ankle over the left thigh, just above the knee, forming a figure-four shape.

  3. 3

Reach through and gently pull the left thigh toward your chest (or place hands behind the left thigh).

  4. 4

Keep the head and shoulders relaxed on the floor. Breathe into the outer hip and glute.

  5. 5

    Hold, then switch sides.

Figure-Four Stretch

  • Opens the glutes and external rotators after hip and leg work
  • Helps with hip mobility and lower-back comfort
  • A go-to cool-down stretch that feels deep but controllable
