One move

Elevated Calf Raise

Strength Lower body

How to read ahead. Do to go one move at a time.

Stand on a step or sturdy book so the heels can drop below the toes for a deeper stretch and stronger contraction.

Option. Start with both feet. Progress to single-leg once double-leg feels easy and controlled.

Show the steps
  1. 1

Stand on the edge of a step or thick book with the balls of the feet on the surface and heels hanging off.

  2. 2

Hold a wall or rail lightly for balance if needed.

  3. 3

Lower the heels slowly until you feel a gentle stretch in the calves.

  4. 4

Drive up onto the balls of the feet as high as possible.

  5. 5

Pause at the top, then lower with control.

  6. 6

Keep the knees soft but not bent excessively.

Elevated Calf Raise

  • Gives the calves a bigger range of motion and a stronger stretch-shortening stimulus
  • Excellent for building resilient lower legs
  • Scales cleanly from double-leg to single-leg
