Donkey Calf Raises

Strength Lower body

How to read ahead. Do to go one move at a time.

Hinge forward at the hips with hands supported on a sturdy surface, rise onto the balls of the feet, pause, then lower with control. Classic Golden Era calf isolation that loads the calves in a stretched position.

Option. Bodyweight only with hands on a chair or wall. Hold a light dumbbell between the feet or across the lower back once form is solid. Single-leg version for advanced. Keep the range shorter if the Achilles feels tight.

Show the steps
  1. 1

Stand facing a sturdy chair, counter or wall. Place your hands on it and hinge forward at the hips so your torso is roughly parallel to the floor, back long.

  2. 2

Feet hip-width, soft knees. Rise onto the balls of both feet as high as comfortable.

  3. 3

Pause and squeeze the calves for one full second at the top.

  4. 4

Lower the heels slowly under control, allowing a gentle stretch at the bottom without forcing.

  5. 5

Keep the movement smooth — no bouncing. Breathe steadily.

  6. 6

Progress by adding light load or moving to single-leg only when double-leg feels easy and controlled.
