Close-Grip Push-Ups

Strength Upper body

How to read ahead. Do to go one move at a time.

Hands closer together under the chest, lower and press. Shifts emphasis to the triceps while still working the chest.

Option. Knees down for an easier version. Diamond hands for even more triceps.

Show the steps
  1. 1

Start in a high plank with hands closer than shoulder-width, roughly under the center of your chest.

  2. 2

Keep body rigid from head to heels.

  3. 3

Lower your chest by bending the elbows, keeping them close to your sides.

  4. 4

Press back up, feeling the triceps do the work.

  5. 5

    Avoid flaring the elbows wide.

  6. 6

Drop to knees anytime you need to keep the form clean.

Close-Grip Push-Ups

  • Builds strong, defined triceps that complete the arm look
  • Still hits the chest while teaching tight elbow control
  • Great finisher after regular push-ups
